 Eileen's Random Travels

I am sharing some of my random travel photos, this is not only for my followers but more of a reminder for me and my hubby of where we have been and what we have seen over the years. All good memories for us, I hope you enjoy too.

Kauai Sept 30, our last full day on the island. We did some repeats of Anini Beach for snorkeling, Queen's Bath and another visit to the Kilauea Point NWR.

We started off the day with watching the sunrise at beach near our hotel. We passed by the hotel pool on the way to the beach.

The man driving the van in the parking lot arrived blowing a whistle and all the cats came running. Their breakfast has arrived.

After our breakfast, we started the day driving over to the north side of the island, with a stop at the Queen's Bath. It is a difficult hike, I started the hike after seeing the trail  I went back to the car and hubby continued down the trail to see the view of the Queen's Bath.

This was our second time visiting Anini Beach, hubby did some snorkeling and I was watching the birds. Below is a view of the water, something surfaced I couldn't tell if it was a turtle or a seal? The bird was seen often, a lifer the Japanese White-eye.

A second visit to the Kilauea Point NWR, I reserved a second visit in the afternoon.

The path up to the Kilauea Point Lighthouse.

A juvenile Red-footed Booby flies by the lighthouse.

The little island seen from the Kilauea Point. It is also a seabird nesting area.

Another lifer seen at the Kilauea Point NWR was the Wedge-tailed Shearwater chick.  They have they nesting burrows all around the wildlife refuge, this chick was seen from the path to the lighthouse.

Eileen's Random Travels

I am sharing some of my random travel photos, this is not only for my followers but more of a reminder for me and my hubby of where we have been and what we have seen over the years. All good memories for us, I hope you enjoy too.

Our Kauai trip continues on Sept 29th, we started this morning watching the sunrise in front of our hotel.  Another beautiful day in Kauai.

After our breakfast we packed up for our day of sightseeing, snorkeling and enjoying time at the beaches.  We had reservations for the Kilauea Point Lighthouse NWR. We used our National Park pass but had to pay $2 for each time slot for parking at the Wildlife Refuge.

The Kilauea Point NWR has one of the largest populations of nesting seabirds. During our visit there, we saw large numbers of the Red-footed Booby, Great Frigatebird, White-tailed Tropicbirds, just one Red-tailed Tropicbird captured in a photo, Nene Geese, Brown Booby, Wedge-tailed Shearwater chicks.

Below all the little white dots are the Red-footed Booby, darker spots are the juvenile Red-footed Booby.

A closer look at some of the adult and juvenile Red-footed Booby.

Our views of the Kilauea Point, looking towards the Anini Beach.

A view looking toward the cliff where all the seabirds were nesting.

A juvenile Booby perched above us, near the lighthouse.

Looking back toward the overlook, hubby loves watching the waves crash on the rocks.

One of my favorite places to eat, great pizza, calzones and baked goods were delicious.

After spending time at the Kilauea Point NWR and having our lunch we drove further north along the coast. Below is the Tunnels Beach.

I am sharing some of my random travel photos, this is not only for my followers but more of a reminder for me and my hubby of where we have been and what we have seen over the years. All good memories for us, I hope you enjoy too.

On Sept 28th, we drove to the south side of the island of Kauai. Stopping in various places along the way. Our main event was the Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Parks.

This was our sunrise at the hotel, our routine before breakfast. We would walk down to the beach and watch the sunrise, a good way to start our day.

The first Waimea Canyon Overlook

Mosaic includes various overlooks and scenes from the Waimea Canyon and the Koke'e State Parks.

Waimea Canyon is often compared to the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

At the last overlook in Koke'e State Park, a view of the NaPali coastline

A stop on the way back to our hotel, was at the Kauai Coffee Company.  They have over 4 million coffee trees. I was thrilled to see a lifer here the Java Sparrows, I wonder if they drink coffee.

I am posting more photos from Kauai on Sept 27th, 2022. We drove to the south side of the island, stopping at various beaches and overlooks.

The Salt Pond Beach Park is known for a good snorkeling spot also for birdwatching.  It was not a surprise to see more chicken running around, we also saw a Wandering Tattler, Pacific Golden Plover and numerous Common Myna birds.

A view of the Salt Pond beach, it was a pretty sky day!

Further up the road, we stopped at the Spouting Horn park and overlook.

It took a good sized wave to create the spouting horn and to hear the sound of a horn.

The Bougainvillea was beautiful at the park.

In the evening after dinner at Monico's in Kapaa, we watched the Rose-ringed Parakeets coming in to roost at sunset.
