Glacier View, Alaska

Glacier View, Alaska

Aug 4-6th we stayed at the Majestic Valley Wilderness Lodge in Glacier View, Alaska.

The Majestic Valley Wilderness Lodge.

The fireweed in Alaska and at the lodge looked beautiful.

Me and my shadow enjoyed the views from the lodge's balcony.

During the winter, people who love to ski can fly into this lodge, they use a helicopter to drop off skiers on the mountain top to do some extreme skiing.

The flowers and gardens were lovely.

More from the lodge, a lovely view of the fireweed, mountains and the firepit.

We enjoyed a breakfast buffet one morning, below are some photos of the dining room and lodge.

Below is a view of the Matanuska Glacier, this view was right off the Glenn Hwy and close to our lodge.

I enjoyed a glass a wine while Hubby and I did some skywatching each evening on the lodge's balcony.

From the lodge below is the sunrise on our last morning.

Thanks for visiting! Take care, have a great day!

Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska

Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska, August 2024

August 1st, we left our Anchorage hotel for the 5 hour plus drive to the Denali National Park and Preserve and our hotel in Healy.

Except for a snack and bathroom breaks our only stop was at the Denali State Park at the Denali overlook. Below a photo of the Denali mountain with the sign naming all the mountain peaks.

A view from the overlook, the fireweed plants were pretty, than a peek of the river and the distant mountain peaks.

The ride to the park was scenic and we did see one moose cross the road in front of our car.

Views from inside the visitor center. The exhibits were of the local wildlife seen inside the park.

We arrived early enough we took a few walks on the trails close to the visitor center.

Alaska Railroad bridge, the train arrives in Denali with tourists and cruise line passengers from Anchorage.

Another walk was on the trail to the Horseshoe Lake.

A view of the pond and nearby river from the trail. I am not sure if the tree damage in the far left corner of the photo was from the recent Riley fire back in June. I know the fire caused the closures of the this Horseshoe trail and whole the park. By mid July the fire was out and the park re-opened. Whew, just in time for our visit.

This is the Horseshoe Lake, we did not walk the loop around the lake but just retraced our steps back up to our car. Between the drive from Anchorage, the first walk to the creek and then this 2 mile walk we were done for the day. We had just a short 13 mile drive to our hotel for the next 3 nights.

Thanks for visiting! Take care, have a great day!

Anchorage Alaska

July 31, 2024,  Hubby and I flew to Anchorage Alaska. We had a week to visit Anchorage, Denali National Park and Preserve and Glacier View Alaska.

These photos are from our first day in Anchorage. We had two flights, the first from Maryland BWI and then Sea-tac airport. We had a short layover in Seattle we arrived in Anchorage between 1-2 pm. We picked up our rental car and decided to do some sightseeing. An easy drive on the Seward Hwy we made a stop at the Beluga Point an overlook where the Beluga whales can be seen. The views of the Cook Inlet and mountains was beautiful.

Our second stop was at the Potter Marsh Coastal Refuge, they had a nice boardwalk around the marsh land. Most of the birds we saw were the Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Belted Kingfishers, and some ducks.

Our last stop for the day was at the Point Woronzof Park overlook. The park is close to the Anchorage Airport.

We had nice views of the Cook Inlet and the mountains.

Dinner was at the Anchorage Chopped and Chowdered Restaurant and after dinner we checked into our Anchorage hotel for the 1st night.

Day two will be on another post, we are on the road to Denali National Park and preserve.

Thanks for visiting! Take care, have a great day!
