Eileen's Random Travels

A Photoblog post of my random travels.

"A little step may be the beginning of a great journey." unknown

These are some images from our visit to the Highlands Hammock State Park near Sebring Florida. We walked on elevated boardwalk thru the old growth bald cypress swamp.

A Great Egret in the swamp.

The narrow boardwalk, glad there was a handrail.

White Ibis in the swamp

Cypress knees look like boney fingers sticking out of the ground.

We saw a lot of orange trees in this park.

It is always cool the see the Armadillos.

Fungi growing on the tree.

A heart shaped lichen spot.

Pretty flowers

I am sharing some of my random travel photos, this is not only for my followers but more of a reminder for me and my hubby of where we have been and what we have seen over the years. All good memories for us, I hope you enjoy too.

I hope you enjoyed! Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your day!

  1. I think my favorite today is the fungi, but tying for first place is the last pic of those flowers... that walkway is beautiful but to my Henn Penny self a little scary

  2. Hi Eileen, even with the handrail, I think I would not dare use the boardwalk. I like the fungi growing on the tree. Have a great new week!

    2. I wish I did, too. I don't know very many, but these I have eaten ever since I married Roger...41 years ago. We call them 'tree mushroom'--very creative, huh? But their more common name is oyster mushrooms. We have also eaten some that there are no look alikes and they were tasty.

    1. Hello Diane, the bony knees are actually the roots from nearby cypress trees. They are common in the swamps. Thanks for the comment. Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!
