Delaware shore scenes

I am linking up with Gemma's  Scenic Weekend

It is Memorial Day weekend, I want to say thank you to our Veterans and our soldiers who risk their lives for us to be safe. Have a happy holiday weekend!

These are some scenes from our visit to the Delaware shore last weekend. You can click on the images for larger viewing.

Slaughter Beach, Delaware

Prime Hook NWR, Delaware

A pretty Pink lady Slipper, a rare sighting for us. This spot along the trail had a lot of blooms.

A view of the Prime Hook wetlands.

Dover, Delaware is home to the AFB and sadly known as the largest military mortuary. Those soldiers killed overseas are brought to Dover before being transferred to family.  If you like old military airplanes there is also a Air Mobility Command museum for the public to enjoy.

It was a great weekend getaway. We visited various beaches and wildlife refuges on the Delaware coast.

I hope you enjoyed my scenic weekend.  I wish everyone a safe and happy weekend.

Key West

I am linking up with Gemma's  Scenic Weekend

These are some of the pretty scenes from our Florida vacation. This post is mostly showing our time in Key West.

Scene from the Fort Zachary park, it was close to sunset.

Custom House life size statues are the work of Seward Johnson.

The statues can be found all around Key West.

Scenes from Corkscrew

I am linking up with Gemma's  Scenic Weekend

These are all scenes from our visit to the Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples, Florida. It is a beautiful place to visit, so lush and a beautiful habitat for the birds and critters.

You can see more of the birds from Corkscrew here:
 http://viewingnaturewitheileen.blogspot.com/2013/04/corkscrew-swamp-sanctuary-part-1.html

They have 2.25 mile boardwalk perfect for seeing all the beautiful plants, trees and birds.

The plants growing out of the trees were pretty, some hard to photograph were rare orchids.

A grassy field, such a pretty bright green.

I love the spanish moss growing on the trees.

The swamp is a perfect habitat for all the different species of birds. If you are ever in the area I would highly recommend a visit to the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate your comments. Thanks for stopping by to see my post and thanks to Gemma for hosting Scenic Weekends.

I wish everyone a safe and happy weekend.

Remembering Curacao

I am linking up with Fiona's Green Day  and Gemma's  Scenic Weekend

Happy Easter to everyone,, I hope you have a great holiday weekend.

With this post, I wanted to show some pretty flowers and since there are no blooms here I am taking you back to Curacao. These are some scenes from around our hotel in Curacao.

Beautiful trees and blooming bushes surrounded the hotel.

Iguana on the front lawn of the hotel.

Not sure, what flower this is? But, it is beautiful!

This is the open lobby of our hotel in Curacao.

The bougainville plant is one of my favorites, they come in many different colors.

I will end this post with one of the many beautiful sunsets we enjoyed during our vacation.

I hope you enjoyed visiting Curacao with me, it was nice to relive my vacation from last year.  Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate your comment.

Roaring Fork Motor Trail

I am linking up with Fiona's Green Day  and Gemma's  Scenic Weekend

These are some archived shots from our visit to the Great Smoky National Park back in October. These shots were taken on our last full day at the park and during our ride on the Roaring Fork Motor Trail.

You can click on the photos for larger viewing

It was a little foggy during our early morning visit, I think it adds a little mystery to the scenes.

A very pretty green and lush part of the park.

There were various trails, were you can hike to the waterfalls. Another beautiful spot in the park.

The Great Smoky National Park is a beautiful place to visit and we enjoyed our visit. Thanks for stopping by to see my post.

Assateague Island National Seashore

I am linking up with Fiona's Green Day and Tricia's  Watery Wednesday II and Gemma's  Scenic Weekend

During this past weekend get away hubby and I visited Assateague Island National  Seashore. I am not sure there are many places where you can hang out on the beach and see wild ponies. They are free to roam all over the island of Assateague. These are some of the shots I took during our visit.

You are not allowed to feed the horses but they must be used to people stopping and feeding them from their cars. I had to hurry and put my car window up because this horse walked right up to my window and was just about to stick his head inside my car. He turned his head when he saw I had nothing for him.

I have posted before about the Chincoteague ponies and now these are the Assateague ponies. Chincoteague is in Virginia and Assateague Island is in Maryland. The islands are separately by a tiny bit of water that I think the horses can swim across.

Along with the wild ponies, there are deer and lots of great birds to see. Some people come to Assateague to camp either in tents or their RV's.

The water levels were the highest I have ever seen them, I think it was due to the storm in the Atlantic and the high tide.

It was a little windy but we were able to take a short walk on the beach at Assateague. It was a fun weekend at the beach. Lots of beautiful scenery, lovely skies and lots of great birds and critters. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed my post.

Scenic Columbia River

I am linking up with Fiona's Green Day and Tricia's  Watery Wednesday II and Gemma's  Scenic Weekend

I am showing some of the beautiful scenery we saw while driving the scenic Columbia River Gorge. There were many viewpoints to pull over and admire the beautiful river.

The wildflowers along the scenic overlook were beautiful.

The scenic views are beautiful on both sides of the river. I think the dramatic sky add some beauty to the scene.

We pulled over at the scenic overlook by the river to enjoy the sunset. The Queen Anne's lace looked pretty near the river's edge.

We did see a nice reflection of the sunset on the Columbia River. I hope you enjoyed our drive along the Columbia River

Thanks for stopping by to see my post and thanks to Tricia the host of Watery Wednesday II  and to Fiona for hosting Green Day  and to Gemma for hosting Scenic Weekends.  I wish everyone a safe and happy weekend.
