Oregon waterfalls

For my travel blog I thought I would show all the waterfalls we saw while vacationing in Oregon.

These waterfalls were all located at the Columbia River Gorge scenic highway. The gorge area is famous for its waterfalls 77 of them on the Oregon side of the river.  A few of the waterfalls could be seen right from the road. The waterfalls are all located within 15 miles of each other.

Multnomah Falls is 620 feet for both the upper and lower falls. The footbridge allows visitors to cross 105 ft above the lower falls. You can actually see a lot of this waterfall from the scenic road. Multnomah is known as Oregon's prime waterfall attraction and is the most famous.

Oneonta Falls, Oneonta Gorge. This Lower Oneonta Falls can only be seen by walking upstream from the Columbia River scenic hwy.

Bridal Veil Falls is a 2.2 mile roundtrip hike from the trailhead on the Columbia Gorge scenic hwy. The trail climbs to a wooden lookout with a view of the falls.

Horsetail Falls is 192 ft and is located right next to the Columbia Gorge scenic highway.

Wahkeena Fallsis a 1.1 mile roundtrip hike from the scenic hwy. It is 242 ft and is a tiered falls. Some of this waterfall can be seen from the road but for the best view you take the walk. The name Wahkeena comes from the Yakama tribe and means "most beautiful".

If you are ever in the Columbia River Gorge area you should definitely visit some of these beautiful waterfalls.

Do your pictures justice and turn off Lightbox.

  5. Disabled it allows a viewer to click on images twice each time making them bigger. Personally for the most part think this feature is a huge negative. Give it a try -

Click on design - top right

Click on settings - left side

Click on posts & comments - below settings

On the page third down - Showcase images with Lightbox ? Click no

    Save settings -top right

    1. It works correctly on the top picture but have to find another elsewhere. There are many posts allowed on the page.

  6. I see yours seem to get big just once. Some blogs are different. The way pictures are uploaded makes a difference sometimes as well.

    2. Probably - mine all work and I don't do that. I like to take close look at picture most of the time. Another thing I like about this is that it's so quick.

  11. Hello Eileen, i love waterfalls whatever they may seem like. I even took a small Flood Falls to pacify my need to see one. OMG that river has 77 falls, amazing! You are so lucky to picture so many, and they are all marvelous. I already saw one of them in George and Betsy's posts.

  14. Wow, Eileen. You really did some hiking while in Oregon. Bud got to do a bit while we were on Baimbridge Island, but I was usually the babysitter. We adore Oregon and hope to return one of these days. All of your waterfall captures are beautiful. Wish I had been there along side you all. Such a nice post. Thanks for the visit. genie

  20. Beautiful! We drove the Columbia Gorge Hwy so many times over the years (family lived in Eastern Washington where we're originally from and the Gorge is the only way really to get from Eugene OR area to there)... but we never tired of seeing these Falls, even though we didn't always have time to do the hikes. Haven't been there now for many years as our parents are gone...it's been long enough now that I'd like to travel the route again, just as a tourist.
