Scenic Sunday .. viewing fall foliage at Shenandoah nat'l park

This is my Scenic Sunday and for more great Scenic Sunday photos please click on my link.

The red foliage in this first picture looks like it is a Ruby Tuesday photo to me, what do you think?  For more beautiful  red photos stop by the Ruby Tuesday site . just click on my link. Thanks Mary for hosting.

My Camera Critters post now follows my Scenic Sunday.

Yesterday hubby and I spent the day driving on the Skyline Drive and a hike on the Limberlost trail and the Big Meadow at Shenandoah National Park.

The Limberlost trail

The fall colors are not peaking just yet but there were enough pretty colors around for us to enjoy. The wildflowers on the Big Meadows were turning a beautiful red. The sky was a pretty blue with some puffy clouds even the moon was out.

Along the drive I had to stop there was a Ruffed Grouse crossing the road in front of my car. How cool it is a lifer for me and I can add the Ruffed Grouse to my birding life list. I tried to take a picture thru my front window and the bird was moving along at a fast pace so the photo is blurry.

I was looking for the Black Bears but we had just missed a sighting by minutes. We did see some pretty deers along the Skyline drive.

Thanks to the Aisha for getting Scenic Sunday started and for hosting.

I like the series on Shenandoah. It is one of my favorite spots and I hope to spend quite a bit of time there next month photographing whitetail deer and scenery. Big Meadows is one of my favorite spots on earth!

  18. Gorgeous - I almost missed the second deer up by the trees in the deer photo! Now if I could get my lazy butt off of this computer and outside with my camera I might be able to get some of our lovely fall foliage here in Central New York!

  23. SNP, one of my favorite places to visit! Congrats on catching the ruffed grouse, unusual to see one except when flushing in thick cover.

Reviewing some of your later post I was pleased to see Antietam Battlefield which is only about an hours drive from my home.

Thanks for your comment and question at Country Captures. Yes some birds do eat poke berries, typically the fruit eating birds. The birds I have observed most often eating poke are cedar waxwings.

    Dear eileeninmd,

Your photos are beautiful! And I know first hand just how beautiful the Autumn season can be on Skyline Drive. I spent much of my childhood in Virginia.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog "Anna's Adornments" and commenting on my ginger cat-boy Calle. I thought that I would just document this event as a part of the change of seasons. I did not expect that anyone would find his or her way to my blog.

    Best wishes

  28. The red wildflowers set inside the brown grasses looks so nice. I see the hint of red foliage in the trees - all add an enhanced artistry to the beautiful valley and mountains...

  32. The first is so pretty for Ruby Tuesday as well. Love the deer. She's looking a bit thin but perhaps its just the angle as she looks back and the skin goes taut over her ribs.

  33. There's alot of red foliage starting to show up here in the Ozarks as well. Fall is certainly nearing full term. The deer are starting to move as well, which causes us to drive a little more defensively as well. Great photos. Have a wonderful Ruby Tuesday.

  34. Yes, the first photo DOES look like a Ruby Tuesday photo! (I hope it's not poison ivy!)

In answer to your question on my blog - my dog is a lab crossed with a patterdale terrier. Got the crazy dominant lab gene though because he is bonkers.
